An Intelligent Interface for Keyboard and Mouse Control -- Providing Full Access to PC Functionality via Speech
نویسندگان
چکیده
SUITEKeys is a speech user interface for motor-disabled computer users. This interface provides access to all available functionality of a computer by modeling interaction at the physical keyboard and mouse level. SUITEKeys is currently implemented for MS Windows platforms. Its architecture integrates a continuous, speakerindependent recognition engine with natural language processing components. It makes extensive use of dialog management to improve recognition accuracy. SUITEKeys extends the speech-keyboard metaphor through functionality visible on its graphical user interface, and accessible through speech. Experimental results indicate that speech input for alphanumeric data entry is a much more effective modality than existing alternatives for the target user group. Such alternatives include miniaturized keyboards, stylus “soft” keyboards, and handwriting recognition software.

A Listening Keyboard for Users with Motor
Computer users with motor impairments find it difficult and, in many cases, impossible to access PC functionality through the physical keyboard-and-mouse interface. Studies show that even able-bodied users experience similar difficulties when interacting with mobile devices; this is due to the reduced size/usability of the input interfaces. Advances in speech recognition have made it possible t...

متن کاملOn the Design of Effective Speech-based Interfaces for Desktop Applications1
Is speech a useful input modality for applications where the user has easy access to a full-size keyboard and mouse? This study shows that a well-designed speech interface can be more effective than a standard desktop application’s traditional interface. Subjects are able to build a set of three spreadsheet tables 50% faster using a spoken dialog interface, and they report significantly greater...
متن کاملInterpretation of significant eye blinks with the use of intelligent agent for effective human computer interaction
In recent years, there has been an increased interest and effort to augment traditional human-computer interfaces like the keyboard and mouse with intelligent interfaces that allow users to interact with the computer more naturally and effectively. Such systems are particularly important for elderly and physically challenged persons. In this work the primary goal is to develop a computer vision...
متن کاملNon - speech Sounds for User Interface Control
Non-speech sounds have already gained interest of the researchers in the HCI community when used in the data sonification and acoustic user interface design, usually as a tool of data presentation. Their complementary role, the use for data input and user interface control by the users who produce them, has been until recently ignored. In the current literature, the use of non-speech sounds has...
